Prevention: Luxury or Necessity?

The latest ad campaign for Quebec’s CSST reveals that:

  • each year, over 20,000 young workers are injured at work
  • every month, a worker aged 24 or less dies on the job
  • 1 out of every 4 days, a Quebecker is killed at work.

These are alarming figures. Especially considering employers are bound by law to provide a safe work environment. Obviously, we need to do more! If “zero risk” is impossible, we can at least target the objective. And prevention remains the only way to improve the sad statistics.

Safety training for all workers certainly plays an important part. But the key to a safe work environment is rigorous monitoring of accidents / incidents. Efficient management software enables employers to aptly compile relevant data such as:

  • cause agents
  • injury sites
  • contact types
  • and locations of events.

The adequately selected management software will yield useful statistics in real time. The statistics should provide indicators to guide prevention efforts which ultimately, will protect workers more effectively.

And how about you, how do you improve work safety and lower the national statistics?
